The internet is dead! Long live the internet!

Well that's what the experts are saying, anyway, because the internet is changing and it's well worth seeing how this will affect you and your online business.

Web 2.0 refers to the second generation of internet based business. In a nutshell, Web 2.0 is epitomised by websites such as Digg, Wikipedia, Flickr and MySpace. The Wikipedia definition of Web 2.0 suggests that it emphasises "online collaboration and sharing among users".

Essentially what Web 2.0 is about is moving away from the static websites and creating new, dynamic sites which invite interaction with the audience. It's about incorporating an RSS newsfeed into your site to deliver fresh, new content to your readers desktop. It's about giving your readers the chance to interact with you, the website owner. It's about linking in with an online community whether it be through social bookmarking or through a blog.

If you read what the experts have to say, anything which doesn't conform to their ideals about Web 2.0 will disappear off the face of the planet like the dodo. Now I'm not so sure that is going to be the case because probably the vast majority of internet users don't know what Web 2.0 is. However, it's worth considering when you're looking to create your new website.

There are a number of options which we can look at when you're planning your new website to make it more Web 2.0 including installing a blog, putting a newsfeed on the site and inviting dialogue with your readers.

The internet isn't quite dead but it is certainly changing.
